Who Is Doing The Building?

If you were going to have a new house built, you would be careful who the builder was. You would want to make sure that he had a good reputation concerning his work and reliability. You would want to know that you could count on him to build the house according to your specifications. You would want to know something about his honesty. After all, a house is a big investment! And you are going to have to live with the results of the builder's work. It would be foolish not to be concerned with who is doing the building of your new house.
But who is doing the building in your life? Jesus warned that people build their lives on different types of foundations (Matt 7:24-27), and some will stand, while others will fall. Should we be any less careful about who is doing this building? Do we ever become more concerned over our houses than over our souls? Our soul is the most precious possession that we have. We will never have another one. It is eternal. Jesus asked: "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Matt 16:26). Yes, the carpenter from Nazareth is interested in who is doing the building in your life.
We can be so careful about who is doing the building of our houses, yet sometimes be careless about who is doing the building in our lives. The tragedy is, our houses will stand but for a few years, and then they will fall. On the other hand, our souls will live on forever. Who is doing the building in your life? "Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it..." (Psa 127:1). It is time to go back to the master carpenter from Nazareth, and allow Him to build our lives!
